Euthanasia is a term derived from the Greek which consists of two words "eu" meaning good, and Thanatos, which means death. Other terms of euthanasia is often also called mercy killing. Mercy killing the killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease, typically by the administration of large doses of painkilling drugs.
There are two kinds of euthanasia in the medical field, namely active euthanasia and passive euthanasia. Active euthanasia is the act of a doctor to hasten the death of a patient by providing drug injection into the patient's body. The injections are given at the time of the disease state of the patient is very severe or has reached the final stage, which, according to medical computing is no longer possible to be cured. Meanwhile, passive euthanasia is the act of a doctor to discontinue treatment of patients who suffer from severe pain, which is medically incurable no longer possible. This treatment interruption means accelerating the patient's death.
Active and passive euthanasia, both of which are actions that can’t be justified by canon law. In the view of Islamic law Euthanasia is forbiden to do, because it is included in the category of intentional murder, although his intention to alleviate the suffering of patients, either at the request of the patient or his family. In the Holly Quran, Allah says what means: "And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden (to kill), but with something (cause) is right". (Q.S Al-An'am: 151). The reason for euthanasia is often expressed that mercy to see the suffering of the patient or the limitations of the cost of treatment is also unacceptable. These reasons only see the outward aspect (empirical), even though there are other aspects related to human life that are unknown and unreached by human, including a doctor.
Euthanasia can’t fully accepted by the code of medical ethics. Doctors are bound by a code of medical ethics that he is required to help alleviate the suffering of patients in a way that can be accounted. A doctor who removes the lives of others is violating medical ethics itself. That act of killing another person is a criminal offense in any country.
It can be concluded that the act of euthanasia either actively or passively, both an act which can’t be justified by law and based on medical ethics. Options that can be done are to try to do good and optimal treatment, accompanied by a prayer to God in order to be given a cure or ease in the treatment of a disease. Another important thing is to maintain our physical and spiritual health, because prevention is better than cure.
